"Expectations"

____________________________________

I used to like to quote quotes.
So now I'll quote one about "Expectations".

"What you see depends on what you look for."
- John Lubbock

The word "expectation" does seem to exude a positive impression. It sounds great to have expectations since most people naturally want things to turn out the way they have expected However, this in itself can lead to a situation of self-fulfilling prohecy, that is, the tendency for someone's expectations about another to cause that person/thing to behave in a manner consistent with those expectations.

Expectations being expectations...
Do they really come true?

We set up expectations.
What happens when our expectation is not fulfilled?
Disappointment, frustration, anger, anxiety...
All these negative emotions stream in
and thus a problem is created for us just by our expectations.

Stopping for a quote again:

"Blaming others for the pain we feel each time someone fails to live up to our expectations is no different than burning our tongue on coffee that's too hot to swallow, and then calling our cup an idiot!"
- Guy Finley

We tend to find faults in others.
We tend to put the blame on others.
For our unfulfilled expectations.
But have we slowed down and consider whether they are aware of our expectations?

Needs are often being communicated,
though expectations rarely are.

For one, we can express our expectations to others.
But are most of us willing to do that?
There's the thing going on in humans' minds, especially the females,
that they expect others to do the thing they expect without being told to do so.
They won't explicitly realise the fact that "We don't know exactly what you are thinking, so how can you expect us to act accordingly?" (We referring to others)
Yeah... basically, it's not easy.

For a second, perhaps we can take another point of view.
"We can learn not to get too attached to the expectations of how our needs get fulfilled."
The results, once predictable, might turn out to be surprising,
just because we are not too focused on our expectations.

But.. easier said that done right?
I have not master it at the very least,
so I end up with the negative emotions I have mentioned above.

The bottomline words and phrases that we can take away with us:

Detach from your expectations
